| Mission to
Mt. View Missionary Baptist Church
Dawson,
West Virginia
First Baptist's
10th annual mission trip to Lawn, WV
took place the 28th of July until the 3rd of August. We had
a group of 19 from Wallingford and 6-8 met us and helped
work with us from West Virginia. We worked on completing
several projects this year, including finishing the fans and
lighting in the new church, building the Narthex, a new
deck/landing coming out of the kitchen, and burying wires at
Ethyl's.
The
church body has grown this year. From about 6-8 when we
first started going there to over 30 this year. It was a
blessing to work side by side with some of the men of the
church. We witnessed and help welcome in a new member as
well. We were told of the 130 or so families that the church
was supporting through the food pantry program. This is
possible through the hard work of the church members, and
since we do much of their building maintenance, they can
concentrate on their own Outreach mission projects.
Our
youth sang an impromptu song, Sanctuary, in service
when asked. Michaela (sp?) Blain sang several songs for the
church. Cathy Copas, Dave Blain and myself were also called
up front to sing.
The
youth worked digging the trench for the power lines to
Ethyl's garage building. They also dug out lawn, installed
morape cloth, and covered it with 2" of stones to make a dry
walkway from the house to the driveway. Back at the church
they took down an old porch near the kitchen and replaced it
with a new one. With very little help they completed these
projects on their own.
Another group worked on painting signs, raking leaves, and
general clean-up. Though they had the dirtiest jobs, they
did them without complaint. Rich Moore worked closely with a
couple of the men from Mt. View on repairing pews and
general maintenance of the sanctuary.
Fred
Andrulat and his team worked on fans and lighting. The Mt.
View members had provided the supplies and scaffolding for
this project. Since much of the supplies were in place when
we arrived, he was able to start right away Monday morning.
Dave
Blain and his crew worked on building walls, installing 5
doors (3 single and one double), and 3 windows. The
breezeway we have built over the past 3 years is now
handicap accessible on both levels, and closed in to keep
the cold out in winter. They envision a future with a
handicap bathroom in this area as well.
Thank you for your continued support of this project,
